Background of the Study
Political instability significantly affects the delivery of social services in many developing democracies, particularly in Nigeria, where fragile political systems often result in disruptions to public service provision (Ibrahim & Musa, 2024). Political instability refers to the frequent changes in government, policy inconsistency, and governance breakdown due to conflicts, coups, or electoral disputes. In Lafia Local Government, Nasarawa State, the persistent instability has manifested through poor social infrastructure, limited healthcare access, and inadequate educational facilities. Research shows that political instability leads to inefficient allocation of resources and delays in implementing essential policies (Usman & Abubakar, 2023). Consequently, the citizens of Lafia experience a decline in their quality of life, with marginalized groups suffering the most. This study explores the extent to which political instability in Lafia impacts the effective delivery of social services, emphasizing the need for stable governance structures to enhance public welfare.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Political instability in Lafia Local Government has adversely affected the consistent and equitable delivery of social services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. The frequent political disruptions have led to resource mismanagement, delays in project execution, and a lack of accountability among public officials (Ahmed & Garba, 2024). Despite these challenges, there is limited research on the specific ways political instability undermines service delivery in Lafia. This study seeks to bridge this gap by examining the correlation between political instability and the quality of social services in the region.
